Basketball CPD
Whilst I have run basketball teams for longer than I care to remember and am happy to teach the skills and basic game play it is a sport that I have never had the opportunity to play. As a result I can find it hard to know how to set up a team and the tactical elements of the game especially against a stronger opponent.
As such I have spoken with Ros of Kings' School, Winchester if she would consider running a CPD session in the Summer term. She has asked me to gather interest from anyone who may be interested. I envisage the session to be aimed at coaching rather than teaching the basics so it would also be relevant to your more able pupils, teams and GCSE PE but it would be more understandable for non playing teachers than some of the course run within Hampshire aimed at coaches.
If you would be interested, obviously date dependent, please could you reply to me at: pe@testvalley.hants.sch.uk

Dear Colleagues,
I am very sorry to inform you that we have been unable to get enough interest for our Girls U16 basketball team to run this year. I am withdrawing the team from the league now rather than play the odd game as I feel that is unfair on yourselves and the league structure as a whole. It will be the first time in 15 years that we have not had a team in the league and it could be a sign of the times.
Could you acknowledge receiving this email as I would hate anyone to be waiting for us or making an unnecessary journey to us. Thank you.
Please accept my apologies and I hope that you all have a good season and are more successful in getting a squad together than we have been.
Kind regards,
Craig Falkingham

Dear all, i hope you all had a restful half term. I unfortunately am going to have to withdraw Chamberlayne College from the U14 girls basketball leagues. We entered with good intentions to get out a competitive team to play league basketball. However we have had little uptake to our extracurricular club and so I would not be confident in being able to field a competitive team into the leagues. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Just a reminder that the DEADLINE for all BOYS' U14 and U16 BASKETBALL RESULTS is on FRIDAY 7th FEBRUARY so that I can sort out the league positions in order to set up the Championship and Plate semi finals which are to be played in the following week.
Remember to look at RULE 3 if you are intending to claim any unplayed games by the deadline. No boys' results will be accepted after the deadline date.

Dear All,
Owing to the Coronovirus, closing of schools and the Basketball England ruling the SDSBA Committee has decided on the following -
The U16 A and B boys' finals will be scrapped and the A and B league results will stand as they are and medals and cups will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd in each league accordingly.
U16 A
1st Bitterne Park
2nd Thornden
U16 B
1st Swanmore
2nd Test Valley
The U16 Girls league has been completed.
1st Kings
2nd Bitterne Park
The U14 boys finals will be held over until September, if possible, but will probably be scrapped.
The U14 Girls league will be scrapped as too few games have been played.
The AGM will be held over until until it can be staged and next years leagues are obviously in doubt.
It's a great pity that this situation has occurred but hopefully it may be possible to run a league next year if the coronovirus subsides.
Regards,
Dave Heron
Chairman SDSBA.

Hi All,
It is with great regret that the SDSBA competitions cannot run this term owing to the COVID19 crisis. Some of last season's leagues were not completed and we cancelled the 2020 AGM and had no entries set up for this season.
If things change it may be possible to look at setting up a reduced league in January but I am not very hopeful.
Please refer to the SDSBA website for up to date news.
If anyone has any observations or suggestions then don't hesitate to contact me on my Email.
Regards,
Dave Heron
